C.K. Shum is a Professor of Geodetic Science at the School of Earth Sciences, and a Distinguished University Scholar at The Ohio State University. He and his research group focus on the research relating to the accurate measurements of present-day sea-level rise and to the improved understanding of the geophysical causes of its rise, including anthropogenic climate-change. They also work on research in satellite geodesy, temporal gravity field and tide modeling, satellite oceanography, hydrology and geodynamics, ice mass balance, precision satellite orbit determination, GNSS meteorology, planetary geodesy, and space physics. He has published more than 170 journal papers, received a number of awards from NASA, Ohio State University and other agencies. He was a Lead Author in the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC)'s Fourth Assessment Report, which contributed to the joint award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to IPCC and Al Gore, Jr. He is a Fellow of the International Association of Geodesy, and President of IAG's Advanced Space Technology Section, 1999-2003.
