Gauri Viswanathan is Class of 1933 Professor in the Humanities in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, Columbia University. He got his Ph.D. in English and Education in Columbia University in 1985, and his M
M.A. and B.A. in English at the University of Delhi, India. His major books include Masks of Conquest: Literary Study and British Rule in India (1989), Outside the Fold: Conversion, Modernity, and Belief (1998) and Power, Politics, and Culture: Interviews with Edward W. Said (2001). He is currently working on In Search of Blavatsky: Modern Occultism and the Writing of Alternative Religious Histories. Professor Viswanathan is also the Co-editor of South Asia Across the Disciplines, a joint series of Columbia University Press. |
