The remarkable progress made since late 1990s in direct georeferencing (DG) through GNSS-aided inertial integrated navigation and kinematic positioning has revolutionarily changed the way how to georeference geospatial data. This DG technology has become the preeminent method in mobile mapping from airborne, marine to land applications. The modern technology evolution of positioning and orientation sensors definitely provides full potential for a great variety of integration architectures and is challenging researchers to develop innovative integration strategies and algorithms accordingly. This presentation will overview the historic development, summarize the current research activities and then tentatively remark on strategic vision of future DG Technology. It will also outline and highlight Dr.-Ing.Wang’s research activities along with the presentation.
