Jorunn Hetland

      Professor of German Linguistics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, since 1998.

     From 1980 to 1998 associate professor and later professor at Volda University College on the West coast of Norway.

      PhD from the University of Wuppertal, Germany.

       Visiting scholar at the University of Lund, Sweden (two periods), and the University of Tübingen, Germany. Has also been a guest at the National University, Seoul.

In my lecture, I shall outline the development of Western science from the beginnings up to the theory of relativity, quantum mechanics, and chaos theory, emphasizing the methods of reasoning applied and the philosophical background.
