This presentation willintroduce the recent research results on the microjoining and nanojoining and potential applications in TU-CWJR (Center for Welding and Joining Research). The focuses include themetal nano-particle (NPs)paste used for high temperature electronic packaging, and the micro and nano joining based on laser technology such as laser micro active-brazingof carbon nanotube (CNTs) yarn, laser self-brazing of Pt to SS micro wires, ultrashort laser joining of nanpparticle and nanoparticles. Professor Guisheng ZOU received his BASc (1988) and MASc (1991) in Xian Jiaotong University, XiAn city, China and PhD (2000) in Tsinghua University. As a visiting professor, he worked in the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining, University of Waterloo, Canada (2009.1-2010.1), studing the metal microwire laser microwelding, metal nanoparticle paste synthesis for high temperature electronic packaging applications, and is now the Guest Professor of the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining, University of Waterloo, Canada. Prof. ZOU is a working unit member of the Select Committee on Micro- and Nano-joining in IIW (International Institute of Welding-IIW), a member of the Metal Weldability and Welding Materials Council of the Welding Society of China, a standing director of the Materials Calculation and Simulation Council of the Materials Branch in the Chinese Society for Metals. As the secretary general, he organized the first International Conference on on Nanojoining and Microjoining(NMJ 2012) held in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He is also a peer reviewer of more than 10 journals, including the Nanoscale Research Letters, International Journal of Minerals Metallurgy and Materials, Acta Metallurgica Sinica, China welding, Materials and Design, Rare Metal Materials and Engineering, Materials Engineering. He has been focusing on the research on microjoing and nanojoining and its applications in electonic packaging, medical device fabrication; Joining and welding metallurgy, materials, processing, physical simulation for materials processing. Over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference papers, 4 patents and 5 books including the “Microjoining and Nanojoining”, “Superconductivity: Theory, Materials and Applications” have arisen from his research work. In 2006, he received the First-class Award in Promoting Science and Technology Advancement of The Chinese Ministry of Education and the Excellent Teaching Award of Tsinghua University.
