讲座简介:
Increasing oil and gas activities lead to increased risk of marine oil spill. The recent example of Deepwater Horizon oil spill has shown that the oil spill is difficult to response and reliable oil spill models are needed to predict the movement, fate and environmental effects of the spilled oil. However, major research gaps exist in oil-mineral-aggregates formation, subsurface blowouts, oil-ice interaction, etc. Due to the lack of data collected at fields, we carry out meso-scale experiments with a 30 m wave tank and obtain various parameters of hydrodynamics and chemical processes. Mathematical descriptions of these processes are developed based on analysis of laboratory data, and are then integrated into existing three-dimensional oil spill models to improve our ability to better predict the fate/transport processes spilled oil in the marine environment.
