After the discovery of parity violation in 1957, the combination of Parity and Charge Conjugation (CP) was still considered to be an exact symmetry. Therefore, discovery of CP violation in 1964 was a total surprise for particle physicists at that time. An idea to incorporate CP violation in the framework of the Standard Model has already been proposed in 1973. However, the definitive experimental tests have only been made in 2001. Since then, many precision CP violation measurements were made for the K, D and B meson systems and they have been fully described by the Standard Model. On the other hand, the Standard Model cannot explain the observed degree of the matter antimatter asymmetries in the universe, calling for new sources of CP violation. In this talk, history and development of particle physics related to the phenomena of CP violation will be reviewed with a summary of the current status. Personal reflection will then be presented for the future prospects. |
