The Milky Way provides us a unique opportunity to study galaxy formation and evolution in unprecedented details. The field has been greatly advanced by surveys like 2MASS and SDSS
in recent years, and will be further revolutionized by on-going and up-coming surveys like
LAMOST, Gaia and LSST in the near future. In this talk, I will present our work on mapping
the stellar populations, structure, kinematics and chemistry of the Milky Way with the LAMOST
and SDSS surveys.
Bio:Dr. Yuan received his Bachelor's degrees in Astronomy from Peking University in 2006 and his PhD in astrophysics from Peking University in 2011. After his PhD, He works at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University first as a LAMOST fellow then as a Kavli fellow. He is a key player in the LAMOST project, particularly in the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-center. His main research interests include Galactic archaeology and near-field cosmology, wide-field imaging and spectroscopic surveys, dust extinction and diffuse interstellar bands, binary stars, and emission line nebulae.
