Abstract:

Photosynthetic microbes are currently unable to produce renewable fuels with high efficiency due to fundamental biological barriers such as wasteful metabolic pathways. This presentation will summarise our recent progress in assembling bio-inspired artificial devices for the sunlight driven production of energy carriers such as renewable hydrogen. The synthetic systems can be rationally assembled by selecting the best materials, synthetic and biological components and are relatively easy to study and manipulate, which allows for efficient conversion of solar into chemical energy.
