The architecture and chemistry of planetary systems is determined during formation in protoplanetary disks.  New high resolution optical/near-IR and sub-mm facilities are now providing unprecedented glimpses into the physical processes that lead to planet formation.  In this talk, I will review observational diagnostics of ongoing planet formation, evidence for protoplanets in disks, and how the formation location may affect the chemical abundances in giant planets.
