Abstract:

Lei Zhao received his B.S. from Nanjing University in 2006 and got his Ph.D in Chemistry from Tsinghua University in 2012. He is now a Postdoctoral fellow in Chemical Genomics Centre of the Max Planck Society. His research interests focus on development of novel protein biosynthesis strategy, elucidation of unclear questions in Rab cycle, design and synthesis of caged chemical switches in controlling small GTPases temporally and spatially in vivo. In this talk, he will present their recent work in trapping the transient protein-protein complex via a novel C2C ligation. This fast, traceless and almost quantitative yield reaction stabilizes an intermedia state in Rab/Ypt cycle, Ypt1-GDI. The insight of this protein complex could help us to elucidate the mechanism of Rab extraction and membrane adhesion which is regulated by GDI displacement factor (GDF).
