Abstract
A fluoropolymer is a fluorocarbon-based polymer with multiple strong carbon–fluorine bonds. Fluoropolymers share the properties of fluorocarbons in that they are not as susceptible to the van der Waals force as hydrocarbons. This contributes to their non-stick and friction reducing properties. Also, they are stable due to the stability multiple carbon–fluorine bonds add to a chemical compound.
In this lecture, we describe our advanced researches on development of novel fluorinated polymers, such as the precision synthesis of series fluorine-containing poly(vinyl ether)s via living polymerization, and discuss the relationship between polymer shapes and their thermo-sensitive behavior. Then, we will show these novel fluorine-containing polymer applications in industries. In addition, the perfluorinated polymer electrolyte membranes on fuel cell technology and their morphologies will be presented.
