Bio: Christoph Hugenschmidt is head of the research group "Physics with Positrons" and instrument responsible of the positron beam facility NEPOMUC at FRM II. His area of research comprises defect spectroscopy with low energy positrons, determination of the electronic structure, investigation of surface processes and fundamental physics with anti-matter particles. Several positron techniques are applied such as coincident Doppler-broadening spectroscopy CDBS, positron annihilation induced Auger-electron spectroscopy PAES, angular correlation of annihilation radiation ACAR and positron lifetime measurements. The positron studies are carried out at NEPOMUC at FRM II and at the MLL using a table-top slow positron beam and β+ emitting isotopes. Other well-established methods for sample characterization are used as well, e.g. XPS/XAES, EAES, SEM with EDX, and STM or XRD.
Christoph Hugenschmidt studied physics at the universities of Freiburg and Bonn where he finished his PhD in 1997. From 1998 he developed the neutron induced positron source NEPOMUC at FRM II and several spectrometers of the positron group at E21 at TUM. He made his Habiliation at TUM and became Privatdozent in 2011.
