Abstract

Natural products are a unique source of molecular complexity and posses a broad spectrum of biological activity. Fittingly, it is estimated that 70% of approved drugs originated from this special class of small molecules. Our group has synthesized numerous highly biologically active natural products over the last decade. During these investigations, we have uncovered new molecules with unique biological activities, provided a foundation for structure activity relationships, and mechanism of action studies.  In this presentation, case studies will be presented that highlight the power of chemical synthesis in the context of bioactive molecule construction and therapeutic discovery.
