Much less is known about neutron structure than that of the proton due to the absence of free neutron target. The Barely Off-shell Nucleon Structure (BONuS) experiment at Jefferson Lab measured the inelastic electron-deuteron scattering, tagging spectator protons in coincidence with the scattered electrons. This method reduces nuclear binding uncertainties significantly and has allowed for the first time a (nearly) model-independent extraction of the neutron structure function F2n at large Bjoken-x in both the deep inelastic region and the resonance region. The result for the neutron structure function will be presented. An outlook for the same measurement at 11 GeV beam energy and in an extended kinematic range will also be discussed.
报告人简介:张机械,博士,目前在 Univesity of Virginia 从事高能核物理研究工作。他于2001年毕业于清华大学工程物理系,2005年获得美国老领地大学物理学硕士, 2010年获得核物理博士学位。2010-2013 在Jefferson Lab 做博士后工作。2013年加入 UVA至今,主要从事电子散射相关的高能核物理研究。
