  简介:

报告摘要:Neutrino physics entered a new era in the last decade. With the discovery of a non-vanishing neutrino rest mass in oscillation experiments a variety of new opportunities to explore showed up in nuclear and particle physics. Nowadays, two of the crucial questions are the determination of the absolute neutrino mass, which cannot be measured in oscillation experiments, and the fundamental character of the neutrino. One option for exploration is neutrino-less double beta decay, the simultaneous conversion of two neutrons into two protons emitting two electrons. Its observation would prove total lepton number violation and would show that neutrinos are their own antiparticles. Probably this will be the gold plated process to study this property. Furthermore, the measured half-live is directly linked with the neutrino mass. Currently, half-life measurements beyond 1025 years could be achieved. This already requires a large amount of the isotope of interest and a reduction of disturbing background to the smallest possible level, something which has to be considered for the future experiments. After a general introduction into double beta decay and the related physics, the talk will discuss shortly the status of the current experiments. However, significant emphasis will be given to general issues, limitations on the various ingredients as well as a discussion on uncertainties coming from nuclear matrix elements.

报告人简介:Prof. Kai Zuber is the chairman of the nuclear physics department, Technical University Dresden, Germany. His main research area includes double beta decay and solar neutrino. He is the spokesperson of the COBRA experiment; he is also the key member of the GERDA, the SNO+, the Borexino and the ISOLTRAP experiments. He has published 194 papers, including 1 in Nature, 10 PRL and 40 RL, with more than10000 citations. He has published 4 books, the most popular one “neutrino physics” in 2004.
