Abstract: Galaxies are the fundamental units and building blocks of the Universe. Vast progress has been made in both observational and theoretical studies. In this talk I will introduce two basic tools, semi-analytical model and hydro-dynamical simulations, for modeling galaxy formation. I will highlight their progress, challenges and future prospects. In the mean time, galaxy spatial alignment contains rich information of how galaxies are accretion and shaped by the large-scale environment, I will also shortly introduce our recent work on understanding the correlation between galaxy spin.
Bio: Dr Xi Kang obtained his PhD at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory in 2004. From 2005-2009, He was a postdoc at Oxford University and Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy. Dr Xi Kang is now a research scientist in Purple Mountain Observatory, Nanjing, and leading a research group working on galaxy formation, large-scale structure, and weak gravitational lensing. |
