The purpose of this talk is to provide a primary understanding on the distribution of aerosol particles in vertical direction in the atmosphere over East Asia. First, some fundamental knowledge on the thermodynamic structure of near surface air will be briefly introduced. Then, two case data: one on the aerosols in a convective mixing layer in Beijing from a tethered balloon mission, and another on the aerosols from surface to low troposphere from aircraft missions,will be introduced in details. Finally, some results on aerosols in free troposphere and low stratosphere from balloon sonde missions will be presented.
