Since the beginning of the data-taking in 2010, LHCb has provided high-impact data and results on quarkonium production, decays and spectroscopy. Apart from the discovery of the resonant behaviour and the determination of the quantum numbers of several exotic states, measurements of the production cross-section and polarization of quarkonia in pp collisions have allowed significant refinement of theoretical predictions, whose uncertainty is dominated for the first time by the ambiguities on feed-down decays. Production measurements are also intended as a set of tools to probe the properties of Quark Gluon Plasma. In this Seminar, I will briefly review recent achievements of the LHCb experiment in the field of quarkonia to put in evidence the open questions and the challenges for the LHCb Upgrade, which will begin collecting data in 2021 at a higher luminosity and a read-out frequency of 40 MHz. To transform these new features into real opportunities for spectroscopy, a new dedicated data-processing scheme is necessary. The LHCb experiment will keep playing a leading role also on the production of quarkonia states in hadron collisions also thanks to SMOG (System to Monitor the Overlap with Gas), a device used to inject a noble gas in the LHC beam-pipe to study proton-ion collisions in a unique energy range (√(s_NN )≈100 GeV) and for a large variety of atomic numbers.
报告人简介: Dr. Lucio Anderlini is a research scientist at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. He received his Ph.D. in 2015 from the University of Florence in Italy, with an innovative precision measurement of the Bc meson lifetime at LHCb. Dr. Anderlini contributed to the installation and commissioning of the LHCb Muon Detector and covered a leading role in the design of the computing model for the LHCb Run2. Most recently, he contributed to the analysis of the data collected in fixed-target mode, drawing an important connection between the physics at the accelerators and cosmic ray detection. Since 2016, he coordinates the LHCb physics analyses on quarkonium(-like) states, including production, polarization and spectroscopy, which constitute the focus of his research activities.
