Bio: Prof. Antonios Mikos, a worldwide famous scientist of biomaterials, is Louis Calder Professor of Bioengineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the department of bioengineering, and the director of Center for Excellence in Tissue Engineering in Rice University. He got his bachelor degree of Chemical Engineering in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki of Greece in 1983, Master degree and Ph.D degree of Chemical Engineering in Purdue University of USA in 1985 and 1988. Prof. Mikos is elected to the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine in 2012, the National Academy of Inventors in 2014, the Academy of Athens in 2016, and the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering. He is the founding fellow of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, fellow of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Controlled Release Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering. He is also the former president of American Society For Biomaterials. Now Prof. Mikos is the Editor-in-chief of international journals, Tissue Engineering Part A, Tissue Engineering Part B: Reviews, and Tssue Engineering Part C: Methods, and editors of many journals including Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, Cell Transplantation, Journal of Biomaterials Science Polymer Edition, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research (Part A and B), and Journal of Controlled Release.
Prof. Mikos specializes in biomaterials, drug delivery, gene therapy, and tissue engineering. He has published over 590 articles, 27 patents, 15 books with citation over 47000 and H-index is 117. Besides, he was given the Clemson Award for Contributions to the Literature in 2001, Founders Award in 2011 by Society For Biomaterials, Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 by Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society-Americas, Shu Chien Achievement Award in 2017 by Biomedical Engineering Society, and James E. Bailey Award in Biological Engineering in 2017 by American Institute of Chemical Engineerings.
