报告摘要:
Geometric (or shape) distortion may occur in the data acquisition phase in information systems, and it can be characterized by geometric transformation model. Once the distorted image is approximated by a certain geometric transformation model, we can apply its inverse transformation to remove the distortion for the geometric restoration. Consequently, finding a mathematical form to approximate the distorted image plays a key role in the restoration. Harmonic transformation is a very important model. A harmonic transformation cannot be described by any fixed functions in mathematics. In fact, it is represented by partial differential equation (PDE) with boundary conditions. Therefore, to develop an efficient method to solve such a PDE is extremely significant in the geometric restoration. In this talk, a novel wavelet-based method is presented, which consists of three phases: First, the partial differential equation is converted into boundary integral equation and representation by an indirect method; Second, the boundary integral equation and representation are changed to plane integral equation and representation by boundary measure formula; Third, the plane integral equation and representation are then solved by a method we call wavelet collocation. Our approach has two main advantages, the shape of an image is arbitrary and the program code is independent of the boundary. The performance of our method is evaluated by numerical experiments.

报告人简介:
    Yuan Yan Tang is an IEEE Fellow, IAPR Fellow, and CAA Fellow (IAPR: International Associate of Pattern Recognition, CAA: Chinese Association of Automation). He currently is the Chair Professor in Faculty of Science and Technology at University of Macau, Adjunct Professor at Concordia University, Canada, and Honorary Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, wavelets, pattern recognition, and image processing. He has published more than 400 academic papers including 250 in SCI index, and is the author/coauthor of over 25 monographs/books/bookchapters. He is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of SCI journal《International Journal on Wavelets, Multiresolution, and Information Processing (IJWMIP)》, and Associate Editors of several international journals. He was the Founder and Chair of pattern recognition committee in IEEE SMC. Dr. Tang is the Founder and General Chair of the series International Conferences on Wavelets Analysis and Pattern Recognition (ICWAPRs). He is the Founder and Chair of the Macau Branch of International Associate of Pattern Recognition (IAPR). He has serviced as general chair, program chair, and committee member for many international conferences.

Dr. Tang led the bidding group with the support of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (supported by the Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa's letter). He beat Japan, India, the United States, Germany and Italy, and won the authority to organize the 18th International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), which is the top-level conference in the areas of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and image recognition. The 18th ICPR was successfully hosted in 2006, and Professor Tang served as the chairman of this conference. This is the first time that the ICPR was hosted in China. This event made China wining a high honor in the world in the research fields of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, image processing.
