We present the measurement of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) using the first year data from the Dark Energy Survey. Using a sample of 1.3 million galaxies over a footprint of 1300 sq. deg in the redshift range [0.6,1], we get a 4 per cent distance measurement D_A(z_eff = 0.81) / r_d = 10.75 +- 0.43. The details of the measurement using the angular correlation function will be presented. This is the most precise measurement of the BAO using photometric data. The results are consistent with the Planck cosmology.
BIO:Kwan Chuen Chan did master studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. In 2012, he finished the PhD studies at New York University. He then took up the postdoc positions at University of Geneva (2012-2015) and the Institute of Space Sciences in Barcelona. Since 2017, he has been an associate professor at Sun-Yat Sen University. His research focuses on modelling the nonlinearity of the large scale structure especially the clustering of the bias tracers and extracting the cosmological information to constrain new physics. He also analyzes the data from the Dark Energy Survey. |
