There is a close relationship between physics and topology. In this talk, we will start from simple examples which demonstrate the interaction of these two fields. Then we will review the basic notion of gauge theory, topological field theory and supersymmetry which are helpful in connecting topology with physics. In the end we will talk about current research in this field.
Bio: Dr. Wenbin Yan is the assistant professor at Yau mathematical sciences center, Tsinghua University. He works at the intersection of physics, topology and geometry. He is known for seminal works in various 4d/2d dualities between 4d field theories and 2d topological field theory or vertex operator algebra. Dr. Yan is the recipient of the thousand talent plan for young professionals and Sherman-Fairchild fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He holds a PhD from Yang institute of theoretical physics, stony brook university, and has done postdoctoral work at Caltech and Harvard University. |
