2.Integrating real-life operational safety experience into the design of technology and its engineering delivery

简介:
1.    Learning from experience – an engineer’s view on delivering complex nuclear projects
a.    The lecture will focus on a high level appraisal of the lifecycle of a complex nuclear project, exploring the various phases of delivery, their interrelation and the latent risks inherent in such a project. The lecture will give some high level examples of where and why things have gone well – and not so well – in international projects. The objective is to give the audience an understanding of international practice on managing complex ‘first-of-a-kind’ nuclear projects.
2.    Integrating real-life operational safety experience into the design of technology and its engineering delivery
a.    The lecture will give an introduction to the concept of ‘design for safe operation’. The time will be spent exploring real world examples of safety features supporting design, as well as a worked example of a nuclear technology used in global industry. The objective is to give the audience an understanding of how/why engineers have to think about the safety of the operator and general public, when designing a nuclear project.

Short Biography of Andrew Carlick
Andrew has more than 25 years of experience in the nuclear industry.  He has an Honours degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the UK Government's Nuclear Innovation Research Advisory Board (NIRAB).  He started his career at the Sellafield site working for BNFL, and is the founder of DBD Limited.  Andrew is specialized in strategy development, design, construction, commissioning, waste management, and decommissioning.

DBD was founded in 2004, and grew into a small medium enterprise with around 150 staffs.  DBD is looking into importing the advanced technologies of WWT developed by the INET team from China as well as to develop business opportunities in the Chinese market.
