Quantum computing (QC) using quantum mechanical phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to solve computational problems that are practically intractable using conventional computers. Among many candidates for realizing quantum computation the superconducting (SC) approach based on Josephson junction has several distinctive advantages including flexibility in circuit layout, compatible with advanced IC fab technology, individually addressable, capability of single shot projective and QND measurements, and readily scalable. In this talk, I will review the development of SCQC from its infancy more than three decades ago to present status of SCQC. The future roadmap, including the most critical obstacles and challenges, towards the realization of quantum computing that is beyond the reach of conventional computing technology. Bio:Dr. Siyuan Han is a professor of physics at University of Kansas (KU). He received physics B.S. degree from USTC in 1982 and Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 1986. He has held various research and academic positions at SUNY at Stony Brook since 1986 and KU since 1997. He is an expert and one of the world’s pioneers of using Josephson junction based superconducting quantum circuits and quantum electrodynamics for quantum information processing and foundation of quantum mechanics. |
