  简介:

ABSTRACT:

The massive antenna array is one of the key technologies to enable  mm-wave communications for 5G and beyond. Unfortunately, the  implementation of full massive MIMO arrays proved to be too costly and  unnecessary, and the wireless industry is adopting hybrid antenna  arrays as a practical approach going forward. Based on our pioneering  work on hybrid antenna arrays reported nearly a decade ago, we shall  present our recent research on new massive hybrid array architectures.  These include hybrid antenna arrays of localized phased arrays,  lenses, Butler matrices and reconfigurable Butler matrices. We shall  report new signal processing algorithms for angle of arrival (AoA)  estimation and beam synthesis to support these hybrid array  architectures. A comparison on the power consumption of these  different hybrid beamforming architectures will also be reported.

BIOGRAPHY:

Professor Y. Jay Guo is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of  Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), a Fellow of IEEE and  IET. Currently, he serves as the Director of Global Big Data  Technologies Centre (GBDTC) and Distinguished Professor at the  University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. Prior this this  appointment, he served as Director of a number of research portfolios  in CSIRO, Australia. Before joining CSIRO, Prof Guo worked as a  R&D leader in the European mobile communications industry for  eight years. His research interest includes reconfigurable antennas,  large scale wideband and conformal antenna arrays, base-station  technologies, and advanced wireless communications and sensing systems.
