Hot gas plays a vital role in shaping galaxy formation and evolution.
?However, even though we live in a disk galaxy, we know very little
?about the distribution of the hot gas, and how it impacts disk galaxy
?evolution via the so-called “circumgalactic medium”. In this talk, I
?will discuss several outstanding questions in this field, including
?problems such as the “missing galactic baryons” and “missing stellar
?feedback”. I will also discuss in general how addressing these
?questions can help understand the baryonic matter distribution in the universe.
BIO Taotao Fang is a professor at Xiamen University. He did his
?Ph.D at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a postdoc
at ?Carnegie Mellon University and also at the University of
California at ?Berkeley as a Chandra Fellow. He then went to the
University of ?California at Irvine as a research scientist before he
joined Xiamen ?University. His research interest lies primarily in
exploiting ?cosmological simulations and multi-wavelength
observations of the ?intergalactic medium (IGM), the main repository
of baryons in the ?universe, and its interaction with galaxies.
