The Speaker:

A lawyer for 32 years, Dr. Kishor Uprety, who holds a doctorate from University (Paris) currently works for AIIB. Prior to joining the AIIB in 2016, he was senior lawyer at the World Bank’s Legal Department for 25 years. Prior to the World Bank, Dr. Uprety worked at the UNIFAD, has been a lecturer of law (Nepal), an in-house counsel at RONAST, an attorney associated with the Council of Lawyers.

Through the World Bank, Dr. Uprety worked on a myriad of development issues pertaining to more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He has been a guest speaker at many professional and academic institutions on a number of international law and development-related topics, including ‘the role of third parties in international water treaty making’, ‘water law reform’, ‘trans-boundary waters’, and ‘legal aspects of operations of international financial organizations’. He has also designed training programs on the legal aspects of World Bank operations for the benefit of project managers and has served on the Editorial Board of the World Bank’s Law, Justice, and Development series, and Brill Research Perspectives on International Water Law.

Dr. Uprety has authored twelve books and two dozen articles on various issues of development law, international, and water law and security. His books have focused on development and peace, institutional frameworks for legal and judicial training, transit regime of landlocked countries, international rivers, combat against corruption, and globalizing justice.

The event:

“Wen Tao” International Forum of Tsinghua University is hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by Schwarzman College. Lectures are delivered by scholars/experts from prestigious international organizations and global development institutions, and attended by students and faculty in Tsinghua University.

The Purpose of “Wen Tao” International Forum of Tsinghua University is to create a new pattern of liberal arts studies featuring higher standards and more areas of excellence for Tsinghua University, foster top-of-class innovative talents entrusted with the mission of the future through the knowledge imparted by experts, deepen international exchanges and cooperation, broaden international horizon, further build up the foundation of liberal arts and nurture greater attainment in the field.

This event is open to Tsinghua students, faculty, and staff. Please present valid Tsinghua ID Card to access Schwarzman College. Guests will be admitted on a first come basis until all seating is full. This lecture will be given in English.
