I will start by tracing out the evolution from Riemann's ?uniformization theorem to the theory of quasiconformal mappings and to ?that of Lipschitz mappings between hyperbolic surfaces developed by ?Thurston, leading to new metric theories of Teichmueller space. I will ?then present the current work and some open problems in this area.

Professor Athanase Papadopoulos is the director of Institut de ?Recherche Math?ematique Avanc?ee of University of Strasbourg. His ?fields of interest focus on Geometry and topology of low dimensions, ?complex analysis and so on. So far, he had more than 100 publications, ?including several books. University of Strasbourg is on the top list ?of European universities and member of LERU, AC 21 and IDEX.

Athanase Papadopoulos教授，法国斯特拉斯堡大学数学研究中心主任。他的研究领域主要集中于几何和低维拓扑，复变分析等方面，发表论文100多篇，出版书籍数本。
法国斯特拉斯堡大学是欧洲顶尖级的综合性高等学府，是诸多大学联合会的成员，如欧洲研究型大学联盟，21世纪学术联盟以及“卓越大学计划”发展院校。斯特拉斯堡大学在很多领域都享有盛名，拥有20名诺贝尔奖得主，1名菲尔兹数学奖得主。
