  简介:

As the largest single-dish telescope in the world, FAST has now largely completed its commissioning phase, with the normal operation expected to commence toward the end of 2019. We are planning its first major survey, namely, the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS). Based on our own innovative technologies, CRAFTS aims to obtain drift-scan data streams of HI image, HI galaxies, pulsar search, and fast radio bursts (FRB), simultaneously. Such commensality has never before been implemented successfully, in any major radio observatory. Such unprecedented capability, coupled with the great sensitivity of FAST, has the potential to significantly advance our understanding of cold baryons both in and out of the MilkyWay, the neutron star population and its evolution, and the origins of various transient processes. For this talk, in particular, I will also introduce another survey concept for FAST, utilizing deep integration, instead. Through all FAST surveys, we aim to combine information from gases, pulsars, and transients to probe the baryonic and dark matter halo structure in the local volume.

BIO
Dr. Li has lead numerous observing programs, including projects of VLA, GBT, Arecibo, FCRAO, SWAS, Spitzer, Herschel, SOFIA and ALMA, etc. and published more than 100 papers. He pioneered several observing techniques, including HI narrow self-absorption (HINSA) and the Fourier inversion algorithm for solving the dust temperature distribution. These techniques facilitated important measurements of star forming regions, such as their formation time scale. He won the National Research Council (US) Resident Research Fellow award (2005) for “his outstanding research capability”, was a member of the NASA outstanding team award (2009) and CAS Distinguished Achievement (team) Award (2017). He served on the Steering Committee of Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), was a co-chair of the “Cradle of Life” group of SKA,is a member of the CAS Major-facilities Guidance Group, an adviser to the Breakthrough Listen initiative, and now the chief scientist of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST).
