The talk will review recent progress on defining complexity using  unitary circuits in the setting of  quantum field theory (1707.08582, 1807.07075, 1810.05151) and discuss an  ongoing effort to generalize it to euclidean path integrals. The latter  results provide a further justification for the path integral optimization  program.
