Galaxy surveys can provide key information for cosmological studies ?through probes of baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) and redshift ?space distortions (RSD). In this talk, I will focus on dark energy and ?gravity tests on cosmological scales using BAO and RSD measurements ?derived from the BOSS DR12 and eBOSS DR14 quasar survey. I’ll also ?discuss how to maximise the information context that can be extracted ?from large galaxy surveys.

BIO
Prof. Gongbo Zhao works in the field of cosmology, ?especially on data analysis and cosmological implications of large ?galaxy surveys. Zhao has made significant progress on key science ?projects based on observational data of the (e)BOSS surveys. This ?includes a first measurement of baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) ?and redshift space distortion (RSD) using quasars observed by eBOSS ?(Zhao has been one of the leaders of eBOSS), a discovery of the ?dynamics of dark energy using BOSS observations at a 3.5 sigma ?significance level (this was ranked top 10 scientific achievements in ?astronomy in China, 2017), and development of a suite of theoretical ?and numerical tools for cosmological tests of gravity. These works are ?well recognised by the international community, and highly cited by ?papers published in top-level science journals including Science, ?Nature, Rept. Prog. Phys., as well as papers published by the Planck ?or Euclid collaborations. Zhao has published over 130 refereed papers ?in SCI journals with over 7000 citations in total (excluding ?self-citations), with an H-index of 51. Zhao has won prestigious ?national and international awards due to his excellence in research, ?including the Fellowship for Ten Thousand Chinese Leaders in Science ?and Technology (2019), the Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship ?(2016) and the Chinese National Youth 1000 Talents Fellowship (2012).
