Topological superconductors are predicted to host zero-energy Majorana bound states (MBS), which recently have raised significant scientific interest, since MBS obey non-Abelian quantum exchange statistics and thus open a new pathway to realize next generation topologically protected quantum computing through the manipulation of MBS. Theory has predicted a promising approach to create topological superconductor platforms, which is to directly couple 1D/2D magnetic nanostructures with s-wave superconductors. 

In this talk, I will discuss the current status and difficulties of searching Majorana zero modes in the field of condensed matter physics, and then I will present a direct study of surface magnetic orderings, superconductivity, and their correlation in a 2D Fe nanoislands on Nb(110) surface hybrid system down to the atomic level by using spin-polarized STM/STS.
