报告摘要(ABSTRACT): Contrary to the standard model predictions, solar neutrino and atmospheric neutrino experiments proved the existence of non-zero neutrino mass. While the mass differences of the three neutrino mass eigenstates have been precisely measured, the absolute neutrino mass scale still remains one of the most fundamental open questions in particle physics. The KATRIN experiment precisely measures the single beta decay of tritium molecule with eV-level energy resolution, and sets the most stringent upper limit of mv2 < 0.8 eV2 at 90% confidence level. This result provides a key input to cosmological models and physics beyond the standard model. 报告人简介(BIO): Xu, Weiran’s research interest lies in neutrino physics and neutrino astrophysics. He received his bachelor’s degree at Tsinghua University, where he studied solar neutrinos at China Jinping Laboratory. He then joined the KATRIN collaboration as a PhD student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
