Brief Introduction: The lecture will discuss some of the challenges of protecting a famous brand in China and some of the strategies Levi Strauss & Co. has utilized towards effective Brand Protection.
Introduction of Speaker: WAI B. ZEE/徐伟彪:a graduate of Cornell University (A.B. - 1984), Albany Law School (J.D. - 1987), and New York University School of Law (LL.M. in Trade Regulation - 1992). Wai’s professional experiences included being an Attorney-Adviser at the United States Department of Commerce ? Trademark Office in Washington D.C. and an associate with the law firm Baker & McKenzie in Taiwan. Wai joined Levi Strauss & Co. in 1996 and is located in its Singapore regional headquarters. He is currently the Chief Counsel for its Asia Pacific Division (encompassing Asia, Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Latin America).
Introduction of Levi’s: Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&CO.) invented blue jeans more than 130 years ago and now manufactures and markets branded jeans and casual sportswear under the Levi’s®, Dockers®, and Levi Strauss Signature® brands. LS&CO. was founded in 1853 and is a privately held corporation owned by the descendants of its founder, Levi Strauss. The Company owns some of the most unique and famous trademarks in the world, including LEVI’S®, 501®, the Tab device, and the Arcuate stitching mark. In fact, the Arcuate stitching mark, found on many of the back pockets of the Levi’s® products, is the oldest continuously used trademark for clothing in the United States. LS&CO. has registered its LEVI’S® trademark in more than 150 countries and vigorously defends its intellectual property assets against infringement and counterfeiting.
