Goran Strbac is currently a Professor and the Chair of electrical energy systems with Imperial College London, London, U.K. He received the master’s degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989 and 1994 from the University of Belgrade (Yugoslavia). Before joining Imperial College London in 2005, he was a professor of electrical power engineering at the University of Manchester (previously UMIST). His research interests include the optimisation of operation and investment of low-carbon energy systems, energy infrastructure reliability, and future energy markets. With comprehensive experience in modelling of economics of operation and development of energy system gained over 25 years, he led the development of novel advanced analysis approaches and methodologies in the area of energy system integration including electricity, transport, gas and heat infrastructures that have been extensively used to inform governments, regulatory bodies and energy industry, about the technical, economic, market and regulatory challenges associated with future low carbon energy systems including analysis of role and value of emerging technologies. He is the author/co-author of 5 books and over 300 scientific papers and a member of the Editorial Boards of five International Journals related to Energy Systems. He is currently Fellow of Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering and Director of the joint Imperial-Tsinghua Research Centre on Intelligent Power and Energy Systems.
