Mathematical Study of Light Propagation in Optically-induced Photonic Lattices

 

Abstract:  Recently, light propagation in optically-induced photonic lattices is attracting a lot of attention in the optics community due to its potential applications to micro-scale optical devices. These photonic lattices induce a periodic refractive-index variation and are akin to photonic crystals. But since these lattices are created optically, they are very easy to control and manipulate. Also, the nonlinearity in these lattices can be very strong in a photorefractive crystal. 

 

In this talk, I will give an overview of this subject, and report our recent mathematical studies as well as preliminary experimental results.   This work is a collaboration with an optical experimentalist Prof. Z. Chen in San Francesco State University.

 

报告人简介:杨建科教授1989年毕业于清华大学应用数学系, 1994年获麻省理工学院应用数学博士学位,同年去University of Vermont数学系任教至今。杨教授最近十年的工作主要集中在非线性光学的理论研究方面。迄今为止,他共发表SCI论文57, 经过评审的学术会议专辑论文8篇,论文被SCI杂志引用470多次,获得的科研经费一百多万美元,指导过博士后两名,担任国际学术杂志编委一个,国际学术会议委员会成员一次,及国际会议特邀报告两次。
