报告人:Prof. Edgar Hertwich

Edgar Hertwich is director of the Industrial Ecology Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Professor at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering. He is recipient of the first Bob Laudise Prize for research in Industrial Ecology by a scientist under 35 years of age, awarded by the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE). He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Industrial Ecology and a councilor of ISIE. As co-chair of the 2003 ISIE conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he was responsible for the scientific program. Professor Hertwich has a Ph.D. in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley. His paper on input-output and life-cycle approaches to sustainable consumption has been selected as a "paper of the year" 2005 by Environmental Science & Technology.

内容简介:

The  Industrial Ecology Programme at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) adresses environmental challenges faced by Norwegian industry and by society at large. Norway has significant environmental issues connected to its offshore oil and gas industry, including high emissions of greenhouse gases, nitrogen oxides, and discharge of drilling waste in the marine environment. We use Life-Cycle Assessment to provide an integrated assessment of alternative technical solutions in the oil and gas industry, as well as carbon dioxide capture and storage and offshore windmills. We also investigate the possibility of developing an Eco-Industrial Park integrating an existing refinery. In addition, our group as developed an analysis of the "embodied" carbon flows connected to international trade, showing the connection between China and Europe. The presentation will emphasize some of the key insights provided by our research.

Our program comprises a number of other activities, including material flow analysis related to the building and construction industry, eco-design and environmental management, as well as climate and technology policy.
