  简介:
An Introduction to VIA’s Robotics Technology for Open Future

By Mr. Bruce Liang/ Senior Manager, VIA Technology (China)

Keynote Speech

Open Future: The Case for Open-Architecture Robotics By Mr. Robert Richards/CEO, Frontline Robotics Inc. (Canada) Abstract: Different national/cultural biases in Asia and North America have resulted in very different robotics programs and achievements. In most cases, whether intended for home assistance or industrial applications, the robots being produced have proprietary, closed architectures. Educators and academic researchers worldwide are forced to choose either expensive platforms that give them only limited capability to program and add components, or very cheap platforms that are of low quality and limited extensibility. We believe that an open-architecture, white box approach in robotics will stimulate the growth of this industry similar to the way that the open-architecture, white box approach to PCs stimulated that industry in the 80’s and 90’s. For academia, several important benefits will be realized. This presentation will outline major benefits of using PC industry standards and will discuss how the open-architecture approach will stimulate robotics
research, knowledge growth and capability growth.
