报告摘要:  MIMO (multiple-input - multiple-output) systems, which have multiple antenna elements at both link ends, have drawn great attention in the wireless community, because they enable higher data rates, and/or more reliable links without requiring more bandwidth. However, one of the key problems is the increased hardware effort, since (at the receiver) each of the antenna elements requires a complete downconversion chain, consisting of low-noise amplifier, filters, mixers, and local oscillators. Similarly at the transmitter, each antenna element requires an upconversion chain.Antenna selection mitigates the increase of complexity by implementing fewer down/upconversion chains than antenna elements, and then connecting the chains to the "best" available antenna elements. This talk will give an overview of antenna selection for MIMO. It describes antenna selection for the purpose of maximizing diversity gain, as well as antenna selection for spatial multiplexing. It will show the performance that can be achieved, and the algorithms that can be used to select the "best"antennas. Also, I will explain so-called RF-preprocessing techniques that can be used to improve performance even more. Finally, I will show some preliminary experimental results recently obtained in my laboratory.
