In this talk I shall focus on a classical problem in fluid mechanics i.e., the Benard Marangoni instability problem. In this problem surface tension affects the pressure difference between phases and can stabilize but not eliminate the flow caused by surface tension gradients
There will be a discussion of how the associated patterns of flow arising from instability are affected by container geometry
This talk is on linearized stability only. Yet interesting physics can be gleaned from picture arguments and simple equations.
