With the advance of various genome projects and developments
of high-throughput biotechnologies,
a huge amount of genome-wide data are becoming available,
ranging from genomic sequences of many species to microarray
and proteomics observations.
I will talk about some of our recent work in extracting features
from biological sequences for understanding functions.
Examples include the prediction of gene expression patterns,
an analysis of the role of histone acetylation on gene transcription rate,
and an application of the generalized dictionary model
for studying Chinese medicine prescriptions.
