The talk will give an overview of the projects at the Institute and focus on the following topics:

-          visual object recognition

o        appearance based

o        model based

-          mobile robotics

o        driver assistance systems

o        autonomous outdoor robot AMOR

First two different approaches to recognise every-days objects will be shown. One way is, to break down an object into components and to use them as building blocks of an object recognition tool set. The second approach uses models of known objects to recognise them and estimate their position in real-time.

In the second part, several driver assistance systems, which have been built together with well-known German car manufacturers will shortly be described. Finally the robot AMOR, which has won the European Land Robot Trial 2007 -the European counterpart of the Grand Challenge- will be presented, also with some video sequences.

 

Prof. Kuhnert: head of the institute of real-time learning system, University of Siegen. He received his diploma from RWTH Aachen and PhD degree from Uni-Bw Muechen in 1981, and 1988, respectively. He worked with several famous international institutions in his earlier careers, and has been a professor at the University of Siegen since 1996. His research interests include machine vision, pattern recognition, real-time systems, and outdoor mobile robots.
