  简介:

摘要:

Engineered materials with desirable thermal conductivities have a wide range of applications.  Examples are thermoelectric energy converters that are built on materials with a low thermal conductivity but a large electrical conductivity, and heat exchangers that require high thermal conductivity materials.  In this talk, I will discuss our experimental and theoretical studies on phonon transport in nanostructured materials, from single molecular chains to bulk nanocomposites.  Emphasis will be placed on taking fundamental understanding based on molecular dynamics simulation, modeling, and experimentation to real world applications in energy and thermal management.

作者简介:

Dr. Gang Chen is currently the Warren and Towneley Rohsenow Professor at MIT.  He obtained his Ph.D. degree from UC Berkeley in 1993.  He was a faculty member at Duke University, University of California at Los Angeles, and moved to MIT in 2001.  He is a recipient of the NSF Young Investigator Award, a Guggenheim Fellow, and an ASME Fellow.  He has published extensively in the area of nanoscale energy transport and conversion and nanoscale heat transfer. He serves on the editorial boards for five journals in heat transfer and nanotechnology and chairs the advisory board of ASME Nanotechnology Institute.
