Innovation is widely regarded as the primary source of economic productivity and growth. In globalized economies firms and industrial sectors that do not innovate will not survive. It is important, therefore, to understand the innovation process: the way market and scientific/technological opportunities are combined to produce new products and processes, and the ways organizations develop new forms of organization and use novel business models. The innovation process itself is changing dramatically, with the use of new ‘open’ innovation strategies and new ‘innovation technologies’, such as eScience, visualization tools and Web 3.0. Using cases of leading international firms, this seminar analyses these changes and discusses their implications for competitiveness. |
