报告摘要:Manipulating light on the nanometer scale is a challenging topic not only from a fundamental point of view, but also for applications aiming at the design of miniature optical devices. Nanoplasmonics is a rapidly emerging branch of photonics, which offers variable means to manipulate light using surface plasmon excitations on metal nanostructures. As a spectroscopic phenomenon discovered over 30 years ago, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been an active topic of fundamental and applied research. For decades, the intrinsic nature of ensemble average in SERS was the main obstacle in the SERS community with regards to its application potential and fundamental origins. Recent milestone advances in SERS include the discovery of the nanogap effect, where the electromagnetic enhancement to Raman scattering within the gap region of two metal nanoparticles can be more than 10^10. Such huge enhancement factors allow single molecule detection via SERS, rather than relying on ensemble average. This also offers unprecedented opportunities for elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of SERS. This talk will give an overview of the latest developments in fundamental and applied studies of SERS following the discovery of the nanogap effect, which gives huge electromagnetic field enhancement and emission enhancement. The light propagation and polarization controlled by surface plasmons will be also discussed.

报告人简介:徐红星研究员1992年于北京大学技术物理系获学士学位;2002年于瑞典查尔莫斯大学物理学院获博士学位;2002年至2004年于瑞典隆德大学物理系任助理教授;2005年入选中国科学院“百人计划”,任物理所研究员。主要研究兴趣包括单分子的物理化学性质,单分子操控及器件的研究;表面增强光谱;复杂金属纳米结构的表面等离体学;表面等离子体光学传感器;近场光学的理论模拟与计算等。在Physical Review Letters等国际著名科学杂志发表的论文有30多篇,在过去的5年时间里被他引1000余次。2007年获得国家杰出青年基金。
