About the author
Prof. Shengcai Li, Warwick University, UK. Prof Li started his career as a research engineer in later 1960’s at the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity, China, where he developed the novel concept of double-row cascade runner for high performance hydraulic turbines which was tested with successful results by Prof Wu Xin-Run (吴新润) at the Yun-Feng (云峰)power station in 1965 much earlier than the similar runner developed by the Norwegian company ‘Kvaerner’ for the Lu-Bu-Ge (鲁布革) power station in 1980’s. He also jointly with Prof Kong Zhao-Nian (孔照年) et’ al developed the first generation of semi-conductor dual-control governor BDT-100 for Kaplan turbines with the prototype working trouble-free for 40 years at the Lu Shui (陆水) power station until recent for upgrading. Since later 70’s he guided his research into fundamental phenomena of cavitation, discovering a phenomenon named as Cavitation Resonance while he was among the first group of Chinese scientists working at the University of Michigan in USA. He also established a hydraulic turbine lab for cavitation research in China and a novel cavitation tunnel at the Warwick University.
He has substantial experience working with industry, solving cavitation problems for world-class projects such as the Europe’s largest pump-storage power station ‘Dinorwig’ (UK) and currently the Three Gorge Power Station (China). He is now leading a cavitation research group at Warwick working on:
· Markov model for bubble stochastic behaviour near boundary-walls;
· Synergistic model of cavitation enhancement on silt-erosion;
· Mechanism of a new type of cavitation identified by him from the Three Gorges turbines;
· Micro mechanism of cavitation resonance;
· Cavitation for medical & bioengineering use, such as human stone crushing and drug/gene delivery for difficult diseases (cancers and cardiovascular illnesses etc).
He is a founding member of the International Editorial Committee for the Book Series on Hydraulic Machinery, and the Series Editor. He has authored two books on cavitation. He is also the lead organiser for a triennial international cavitation conference ‘WIMRC CAVITATION FORUM’.

李胜才教授,英国华威大学。他从事水轮机空蚀与机理研究40年,在空泡机理和抗空蚀水轮机的研究方面做出了开拓性的工作。由他主编的’Cavitation of Hydraulic Machinery’(水力机械空化)一书于2001年出版以来获得了国际同行的广泛认同, 多次被国际一级刊物的综述和评论文章引用并经常被指定为国际讲学班的参考书。由他主持的每三年一次的空化国际会议‘WIMRC CAVITATION FORUM’是透平机械空化的主要国际学术交流平台。
他的空化实验室中有EPSRC(英国工程与自然研究理事会)资助、自行设计、建成的新型空化试验装置, 共有博士后、博士生和硕士生十余人从事空化研究。他六十、七十年代在中国水电部从事研究和教学期间,开发了双列叶栅(也称为长短叶片或带副叶片)新概念转轮,并於1965年由哈尔滨大电机研究所吴新润所长主持在云峰电站十万千瓦混流机组上试验成功。这比八十年代从挪威‘Kvaerner’公司为鲁布革电站引进的双列叶栅转轮要早了整整二十年。他在六十年代未与一机部天津电气传动研究所孔照年(现在水科院)等共同开发了中国第一代半导体双调电液调速器BDT-100型,样机在陆水电站投入运行近四十年无故障直至最近升级换代而退役。丰富的水电实践经验使他的基础理论研究总是紧紧围绕水力发电的重大技术关键,得益非浅。1978年他以河北省和水电部系统第一名考上改革开放第一批公派留美,在密西根大学发现的空化共振现象就源自於对水轮机尾水管内空化流引起的振动的研究实践。1987年他为欧洲最大的抽水蓄能电站解决了泵工况下的空化问题(详见他的水力机械空化一书)。2006年又第一个识别了发生在三峡水轮机上的新型空化。目前他的研究团队正在验证他提出来的一系列水电核心科技的前沿基础理论,如空泡与边壁相互作用的马尔科夫随机模型、空化与沙粒耦合作用模型、空化共振(空泡水平上)的微观机理和一种关於边界层层流条纹激发空化的新型机制。此外,他的研究团队还从事空化在医学和生物工程中的应用研究。其中包括EPSRC资助的大型项目,例如人类的 (肾、膀胱和胆) 结石的粉碎、治疗疑难病 (癌、心血管、皮肤和眼疾等) 的药物和基因片断的定位输送等研究。
