A classical problem in number theory is to decide whether a given system of polynomial equations with rational coefficients has solution with rational numbers. In arithmetic geometry,this problem is equivalent to decide whether a given algebraic variety defined over the field of rational numbers has a rational point. In this talk we will explain the notion of index of algebraic varieties which controls partially the existence of rational points. Some general results will be mentioned without proof |
