Ignatius Wang, a resident of Philadelphia for 40 years,
is an architect and community builder who contributes his time and skill to serve the common good of the public.
IGNATIUS C. WANG, AIA
Ignatius Wang has been a community advocate for intergroup harmony in the past thirty years. As the Chairman of the Board of Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, he led the effort in preserving and promoting the Philadelphia Chinatown. His active performance in 8 years of service as a member of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission has been characterized by a high level of competence and energy. He is widely praised for his fairness in viewing community issues and highly respected for his understanding of the political nature of governmental decision-making.
Born in China and educated in Taiwan, Mr. Wang came to Philadelphia after graduate studies at Kansas State University where he received a master's degree in architecture. Mr. Wang is a highly skilled architect who is registered as an architect in several states in America. He is the founder and principal architect of UCI Architects, Inc.
Mr. Wang is a member of the Board of Managers of the Hahnemann University Hospital, a member of the Board of Directors of Chestnut Hill College, founding member and Secretary of the American Association for Ethnic Chinese. Mr. Wang also served as the Chair of the Board of Asian Bank in Philadelphia for 3 years, Chair of the Board of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation for 12 years.
In 1994, the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission recognized Mr. Wang by bestowing upon him the Community Services Award. He was described as a recognized leader throughout Philadelphia who has demonstrated his sustained dedication to the pursuit of social justice for all.
In 1996, Ignatius Wang was honored as a community hero by the Olympic Committee to carry the Olympic Torch through Center City Philadelphia.
It is Ignatius Wang's unique style of leadership that allows him to empower diverse communities to develop their own neighborhoods. While cultivating the confidence and support of government officials, he facilitates and forges critically important partnerships between the local government and the community. These new partnerships are indispensable to the economic resurgence of our cities throughout the nation.
