主讲人简介:

Kevin J. Krizek is Associate Professor of Planning, Design, and Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado. He currently serves as Director of the PhD Program in Design and Planning and heads the Active Communities / Transportation (ACT) Research Group, a collection of students and researchers studying how land use-transportation policies influence household residential location decisions and travel behavior. He has been the PI for close to $3 million of externally funded research; much of this activity focuses on bicycling specific projects. Krizek is a founding editor of the Journal of Transport and Land Use, chair of TRB's Committee on Telecommunications and Travel and is on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Planning Association. He is the co-author or editor of two books and over thirty published articles (most recent book recently published: Planning for Place and Plexus: Metropolitan Land Use and Transport). His doctoral research examining relationships between household travel and urban form won the Barclay Gibbs Jones Award for Best Dissertation in the Field of Planning from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning in 2001. 内容简介:

In the summer of 2005 US transportation legislation was passed that aimed to encourage bicycling based, in part, on the premise that increased cycling could bring economic and environmental benefits to communities. This presentation opens by discussing the context of US discussions about cycling policy and then outlining the range of environmental and economic benefits that are often asserted. Based on a scouring of available literature, I comment on the degree to which various community planning initiatives induce additional cycling to realize various benefits. The bulk of the presentation then describes three approaches to quantify specific benefits--how residents value bicycle lanes in communities, how bicycle commuters value different types of facilities, and the environmental savings of bicycle trips that substitute for auto trips--each with applications relying on original data analysis.
